Last year I began doing guest reviews on The Live Review before taking over full ownership of the site in November. The Live Review is an Events and Entertainment website that covers everything that is happening in London. I’ve loved sinking my teeth into the site and growing the stats, and I’ve been so lucky with all the opportunities that it has opened up for me, but I did end up letting Glam Glitz Gloss slide as it took all of my attention.
I kept saying to people I just needed time to work out the best way to manage two blogs but as time went on and I sat staring at a blank screen ready to write up a post for GGG I realised my mind was as blank as the screen. Doubt suddenly crept up on me, did I still know how to write the fluffier pieces that graced the site in comparison to the entertainment reviews and press releases I’d been working on for the past months.
I realised that as I had grown and adapted my writing style with The Live Review, I had lost my direction with GGG because I was no longer sure what I wanted to talk about. I originally started out as a beauty blogger but now that I know what works for my skin and as I don’t wear make up every day, I don’t really have enough content and opinion to be going down that route anymore.
My Glam Glitz Gloss Instagram has become a presence of fashion and food, and whilst I enjoy posting the fashion shots as I’ve become more confident in front of the camera, I’ve never really been interested in entire blog posts surrounding an outfit. Well done to the fashion bloggers that have made that work for them but personally I’m an outfit repeater and how much can you really say about an outfit when you happily wear your clothes to death.
I finally started to see a clearer direction after being invited to two events with Traverse Events, which I attended with Char who is a travel blogger who travels to 12 destinations in 12 months and showcases how to travel bouji on a budget. I’ve always loved to travel and have been lucky enough that my Mum took me abroad from a young age but Char was the one who encouraged and inspired me to start solo travelling, and being with her and discussing all things travel really piqued my interest.
I had sporadically posted about travel in the past, on topics like budgeting for a holiday and tips for an all-inclusive holiday, and reading back through my travel section I realised I really did enjoy writing those posts and would like to get back into that area but needed to work out what my niche would be within the world of travel bloggers. I also needed to actually manage my time to a point where I could manage two blogs simultaneously and I’ve started to work on a plan for this, although I’m sure at first it will be a lot of trial and error until I find what works for me.
Whilst I had all these travel ideas floating around in my head, with no clear direction, I knew that Char was attending Traverse’s next travel event called BorderlessLive and fortuitously the tickets went on sale, so I decided to go with her. BorderlessLive is a new festival for aspiring and established content creators and influencers to connect and learn from each other.
Also attending the event are a number of brands and tourism boards covering so many amazing destinations, including a number of hidden gems I hadn’t heard of before. Whilst I wasn’t expecting any collaborations to come out of the event as I’m basically at the start of the game in this field it was so interesting and helpful meeting them and find out what they’re looking for in a blogger and the potential future I could build with them if the travel content takes off.
After discussing my two blogs with a number of people I realised that I essentially wanted to implement what I do with The Live Review but in a wider spectrum. I want to showcase destinations and what they have to offer, from food to activities to their heritage and everything in between. I want people to know the joys of an area, especially places that are not as well-known as the standard places that come to mind when you discuss a country. Like would you know where Mechelen is if you didn’t run off and google it, and do you know their legend of the Moon Extinguishers? You actually should google this, it’s a great little story.
As I have paid off my url for the next few years I’m not going to start an entire new website altogether. Glam Glitz Gloss still gives me the option to branch out in the future again if I choose to. However, I am starting a new Instagram, a travel extension under the name of Glam Glitz Global, where I will be featuring my pictures from previous and upcoming travel adventures and I can’t wait to start sharing more of it with you all. I hope you’re all excited to come on this journey with me but if it’s not for you then I understand if it’s time for you to leave me, and I thank you for the years you’ve stood by me dolls. Mwah, here’s to the birth of Glam Glitz Global.
Looking forward to the new content and glad you are feeling positive about blogging again.
