If you have a very long living room, then you will understand how hard this can be to furnish. At times you may think that there is nothing that you can do to try and fix it and that you have to turn down almost every furniture item you see. With a few hints and tips however, you will soon find that furnishing an awkwardly shaped living room is easier than ever before.
Create a Walkway
If you have a long and narrow living room, then you need to create a pathway for people to walk through. This can be tricky because the last thing that you need is people tripping over furniture as they try and make their way through your home. If possible, create your path at the back of the room rather than right down the middle. This will create a much cosier atmosphere and it will also give you the chance to experiment with furniture much more as well.

Pull Furniture Away from the Walls
When you are arranging furniture, it is so important that you don’t push everything up to the walls. Float it in the middle of the room. Contrary to what most people believe, this won’t make the room look choppy and it will also give you the chance to create a much cosier seating area. If you were to put all of the furniture up against the wall then this will create the feeling of being at the bowling alley and this is the last thing that you need when you are trying so hard to get everything organised.
Use Oval Pieces
If you really don’t want to end up with the bowling alley effect then you need to use furniture which has a soft edge, or even furniture that is rounded. Having a rounded ottoman in the
middle of the room can work wonders for the straight lines that the room has to offer. You might also want to invest in some rounded lamp shades, fixtures and side tables. If you want to get some ideas then check out Vida furniture.

Opt for Perpendicular
Rather than having a long sofa against the wall, you should really think about having a couple of smaller love seats. You can have these running perpendicular along the length of the room and this will help to break up the space a bit. This is another way you can use your space and you would be surprised at what an impact it can have on your home.
Divide up the Space
If the room is really long, then you might want to split the room up into different areas. When you do this, you can then give each part its own personality. This is a fantastic way for you to really organise the space that you have. Of course, if you want to take the space to another level then consider using vertical furniture as well. This can include shelving or even display cabinets. When you do this, you create the illusion of height.
Such good ideas, my living room is so long and I never know what to do with it so thanks for this 🙂
